I recently came across this wonderful vintage, Canada maple leaf charm, originally part of an old, mid century brooch. Somewhere along the way, it had broken free from its original setting, but it was far too full of character to leave behind.
I’ve given it a new life as a pendant on this mixed metal necklace. The warm, aged brass maple leaf looks striking against a beautifully textured copper frame and hammered silver tone chain. I have photographed the back of the pendant where the pin once attached, which remains as found, but as this part of the pendant is recessed it does not touch the body.
Its worn surfaces and mismatched metals are very much part of the story. Gently cleaned, yet nothing has been polished into perfection. Instead, the years it has already lived remain visible.
